Introducing Lallemand’s Silage Testing Service
With beef and cattle prices at record highs, ensuring you get the most out of your feed has never been more important. Lallemand Animal Nutrition is proud to introduce a comprehensive silage quality testing service designed to help producers and contractors optimise livestock performance and feed efficiency.
Why Silage Testing Matters
Silage is the cornerstone of many feeding programs, but its nutritional value can vary significantly depending on crop type, harvest conditions, storage, and geography. Relying on “book values” can lead to inconsistencies in rations, impacting animal health and productivity. As Alex Turney, Managing Director of Lallemand Animal Nutrition, explains:
“Together, our inoculant and sealing technology helps produce better quality silage. This new testing service complements that by giving customers the ability to monitor and adjust their mixed rations for optimal livestock health and performance.”
What Does the Service Include?
The testing process uses advanced Near Infrared Reflectance (NIR) technology through Rock River Laboratory, a global leader in agricultural analysis. Each sample undergoes a complete nutritional profile, including:
- Dry Matter
- Crude Protein
- Starch
- Fibre
- Ash
- Digestibility
Results are delivered within five days, giving you actionable insights to fine-tune your feeding strategy quickly.
“Consistency is key because that’s what livestock thrive on. Any change in forage quality affects performance. Routine testing helps remove fluctuations in average daily gain or milk production. Even small adjustments can deliver big savings. For example, if protein levels in canola rise from 40% to 43%, you could reduce inclusion rates and save $5 per tonne on feed costs. Multiply that across hundreds of tonnes, and the benefits are clear.”
How to Get Started
Using the service is simple:
- Contact your Local Technical Services Manager for sample bags and guidance.
- Collect samples across the face of the stack, seal them in the supplied reply-paid bag, and complete your details.
- Send the samples for analysis and receive your results within five days.
This proactive approach ensures your ration is balanced, cost-effective, and delivering maximum performance.
